Introduction

Instagram is a great place to capture leads for almost any type of business. Whether you’re a small or established business, the end goal is the same, acquire quality leads so you can scale your business.

Many businesses buy leads from brokers and sellers who have themselves used or sold the lists multiple times.

If you recognize the potential for doing this for yourself, then read on. I’m trying to explain a simple and effective way to capture leads from Instagram so you can grow your business without spending thousands of dollars for abused leads and scammy courses that will charge you hundreds (or thousands) to teach you knowledge that’s out there for free.

I’ve used this method to help local businesses grow, and now I’m basically consolidating my knowledge into one document for everyone to use.

Instead of buying leads from other companies, I’ll teach you to get leads for yourself using Instagram ads. I’ll show you a few free tools to help you get started, and if you have any questions, I’ll let you know where to reach me by the end of the course.

By the end of this short course, you should have some knowledge and direction on the topic. I’ve tried to keep this as short and to the point as possible, so I won’t be giving you any elaborate examples to waste your time.

Before we get started with the first step, it’s always good to have a clear goal for your campaign. My first piece of advice is to create a document/visual aid for your campaign, this can be as simple as creating a Google Docs or using a white-board to write down some notes and goals as you go along. Throughout the course, I’ll let you know what I typically document at each step so you can follow along.

You don’t need to follow everything super rigidly, you can be creative with any of the steps along the way, most importantly, experiment and optimize as you go along.

Alright, let’s get right into this.

Firstly we want to plan and outline a few things in your campaign. This is where a Google Docs or having a white-board can start to help.

It’s useful to have these 3 steps written down there, so we can add to them and fill them out as we go along.

  1. Ad Design
  • Elements/images
  • Call to action

  1. Instagram Ad
  • Targeting/Demographics
  • Testing/Optimization

  1. Website/Lander/Lead Capture
  • Information funnel
  • Call to actions
  • Captures

These are the 3 main steps we’re going to cover, and basically going to be the fundamentals of every lead generation campaign you do.

Ad Design

Your Instagram Ad is going to be the first place people are introduced to your funnel. It’s a great place to make a good impression that can last all the way up to conversion.

To create designs for my ads, I personally use a web application called Canva. It’s free to use offers a tonne of awesome features such as templates for your Instagram ads, and can be used on mobile too.

You should avoid spammy content and irrelevant images, and get straight to the point. Also avoid placing text where Instagram displays user information like these guys.

I recently created this Ad for my SEO agency using Canva. Since SEO is not really a visual product, I decided to use a gradient and a “before and after” screenshot.

I used around 10 words to describe exactly what I’m trying to sell, added a logo and call to action (swipe up!), that was basically all that was needed in this case.

  1. You should have a logo somewhere in the ad, preferably at the top
  2. Add text that best describes what you’re doing, as few words as possible (less than 14 words)
  3. You may add a call to action like “swipe up”, however Instagram adds their own “swipe up/learn more” at the bottom, so avoid covering that area with text too

One thing I see on a lot of botched Instagram Ads is that the advertiser is using images that aren’t at all relevant to the ad. For example, when people don’t know what image to use, they resort to using some random image of themselves, or some stock photos from Google, both of which are really bad ideas.

Another thing is when they have too much text, even grammatical errors, these are all things you should avoid, as that will highly decrease your conversion rate.

If you’re creating an ad for a real estate agency, you might want to use an image of some property you are advertising, or if you’re a dentist, you can add images from your practise or some before and after photos.

If you absolutely need to find stock images, you should use UnSplash or Pexels to find free high quality content for your ads.

I personally use gradients in most of my ads, and Canva has a simple drag-and-drop background features for everyone to use.

Instagram ads are also pretty straight forward, for some reason people really want you to think you can’t do it on your own, but they’re wrong. Instagram has actually made things pretty simple to build and manage ads right on your phone.
